Young Allies #2 is the kind of Golden Age wartime comic that easily tops the Want Lists of genre collectors. Envisioned as a sidekick team-up book, Bucky and Toro appear here without their adult companions Captain America and The Human Torch. Giving their top-sellers' minor leaguers a title of their own was a stroke of inspiration that would continue to be a common trope in comics for decades to come. The Syd Shores cover is straight out of an Alex Schomburg fever dream as the Young Allies burst through a wall in a strange tank-like contraption into a den of Nazis who are preparing to brand a couple of their bound compatriots with Toro pitching a fireball at a machine-gunner. Pure Golden Age mayhem!


This 8.0 copy of Young Allies #2 is in very admirable condition: the cover is incredibly clean and solid, the spine is rigid with great staple placement, the color strike is deep and vivid, and the corners are nice and sharp. With just under 50 copies on the census, this is easily one of the finest copies available. Fans of Golden Age wartime comics should take note that this will likely be a sleeper hit come auction time.
