1st Sub-Mariner; 1st Human Torch; 1st Angel; 1st Marvel comic!! historic!! Comic Book Impact rating of 10 (CBI)
This is the beginning. Without this, there would be no Marvel Universe, no Captain America punching Hitler, no Marvel movies, no Spider-Man, not even today's superhero mythology as we know it. One of the top five most important comics ever published, this haunting, moody, aggressively atmospheric issue took the simple, colorful genre pioneered by Shuster and Siegel and made it something vast and compelling. Featuring the first appearance of the Human Torch by Carl Burgos, the first Angel by Paul Gustavson, and, vitally, the first appearance of the Sub-Mariner, by Bill Everett, whose deft illustrations instantly raised the bar for the new hero craze and melded the classically trained pulp cover tradition with the stark new look of cape comics. Also featuring the first Ka-Zar, Ben Thompson's Tarzan swipe designed to attract the still-vibrant pulp readership, this is likely the scarcest of major Golden Age keys, which never fails to ignite a frenzy of attention when copies come to market.
You are viewing a stunning Marvel #1 October Copy/1st printing. Rarity is a term that has lost much of its meaning in today s comic market. The word is often used to describe a brand new variant that came out last week as well as a truly difficult to obtain item. However, when we say that the October copy is rare don't simply take our word for it, take the word of someone in the know. During a conversation with Art Goodman in 1982, Timely publisher Martin Goodman's brother, he stated that there were two printings of Marvel Comics #1. The October Copy/1st Print had a print run of only 80,000 copies as Timely, then a small pulp novel publisher, didn't expect it to sell very well. When it sold out in two weeks they went back to press and published 800,000 copies of the November/2nd print. An unrestored CGC graded VG/FN 5.0 October Copy/1st Printing of Marvel Comics #1 sold in 2007 for $83,000.00.

The minor professional restoration was done by Mark Wilson. There is no piece or chip replacement, no color touch and no spine splits have been sealed. Minor restoration and great eye appeal combined with supple off white to white pages make this copy very appealing. ***Even though this book is not currently CGC graded, ComicConnect.com offers a GUARANTEE that CGC will grade this book, at the very worst, at least a 6.5 with slight professional restoration.
