TITLE: Cover, Issue #80 ITEM: VG: 4.0 GRADE: DC PUBLISHER: Steve Ditko pencils and inks by Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio. Here's something you will very rarely come across . . . a LARGE ART Art Steve Ditko superhero cover from the same 1960s time period he was hard at work drawing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN covers! CAPTAIN ATOM was Steve Ditko's first-ever superhero character, pre-dating his work on Spidey. The character debuted in the June 1960 edition of SPACE ADVENTURES #33, running through to #42, October 1961. None of the covers for that title featured original artwork, as they were composed of stats taken from the interior story art. In December 1965, following a lull of four years, CAPTAIN ATOM returned in his own solo title (which retained the numbering sequence of the title it replaced). The cover offered here, for CAPTAIN ATOM # 80, is the 3rd cover from the good Captain's solo series - and is also the 3rd all-original artwork cover for the character (bearing in mind the SPACE ADVENTURES stories used stats for its covers). Outside of a handful of known Ditko SPIDER-MAN covers, locked away out of sight in permanent collections, there are an equally scarce supply of known LARGE ART Art Ditko superhero covers from the artist's peak period of the 1960's. The cover offered here was created at the same time as the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #35. The artwork has an image size of 13" x 19". There is slight paper discoloration, due to age, but the artwork is generally in very good condition. Steve Ditko pencils and Rocke Mastroserio inks (signed by both artists). This cover art is being offered on a limited time basis and will be withdrawn later on in the year if it remains unsold!COMMENTS:
