Ohio CopyPhantom Lady comics of the 1940s have become more infamous for their bondage covers and suggestive themes than the actual stories. Fans credit the passionate art of Matt Baker and Jack Kamen that ensured the Good Girl heroine would stand out on the newsstands. Copies of Phantom Lady have become increasingly rare, with climbing auction copies reflecting the extreme demand for this formerly overlooked title.April, 1949. This provocative bondage and headlight cover was the last of the Fox Features Phantom Lady series. Much rarer than the famous #17 cover from the same series, of which 51 copies have been graded by CGC, only 17 of this issue has passed through their hands.
This copy, with provenance from the Ohio Pedigree, is the single-most second-highest graded on the Census. Eat your heart out, boys!
