Twice-upJoe Kubert's professional start in comic books started at either 13 or 14 depending on who tells it and how good their memories are. But it has been a spectacular career and one that is all the more amazing since Kubert is known for one character he worked on both in the Silver and Golden Age Hawkman!
This page came through the hands of Jon Chester Kozlak. Kozlak was an artist at DC from 1942-47 as a penciler and inker for such features as The Atom, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Wildcat. In 1947 he decided to return to his home in Minnesota. Since he knew many of the artists at DC, he thought he would take samples of their work and act as an artist's agent to solicit work. He took pages of work from all the top DC artists: Jack Burnley, Paul Reinman, Stan Asch and & Joe Kubert!
A very strong example, the page has Hawkman in 4 of 6 panels, with one being a full tier, is from 1946. It is before his headdress changed and more closely matches the Silver Age version. The page is in fine condition with three cut-ins where each of the fight hits takes place. The page measures 14.5"X 22.5"
