Jack Kirby cover/art; 1st app of the Vanisher; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 7 (CBI)
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kicked off the X-Men with an epic battle against Magneto. This classic second issue introduces the idea of other mutant super villains that also need to be stopped by our earnest teens. The Vanisher has the ability to teleport. and uses that talent to steal national secrets before demanding millions of dollars from the US government in an exciting standoff at the White House. The use of the mutant hero/villain motif would become the backbone of much of the X-Men's Marvel line, and this beloved early issue shows the foundations being laid for greatness to come.
The colors are vibrant and deep while the corners are square and true. Only 2 copies in the world grade higher.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
