(Marvel still brought in the top-selling Fantastic Four on the cover as insurance.) The book remains one of the cornerstones of comic collecting--featuring the first appearance of J. Jonah Jameson as one of the most iconic supporting characters in the history of comics. The book is also notable for including The Chameleon as Spidey’s first supervillain. The shape-shifting spy has been one of the major missing figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is finally set to make his big-screen debut in this year’s Kraven the Hunter film.
As with Amazing Fantasy #15, copies of this comic tend to turn up in shoddy condition, thanks to zealous readers and the leftover dregs the struggling Marvel was reduced to printing their books on. That's why it's so nice to see higher-grade copies of this seminal book make it to market. The unforgiving grey background make the reds of each copy vitally important, and the colors fairly blaze off this copy, helped by unusually rich, satisfying blues on the FF's uniforms. Anyone who's deadly serious about owning this book as an investment must get the best copy available, and this is one of the nicest we've yet offered.
