3rd Superman cvr by Shuster; RARE!!
CGC VF-: 7.5
It's difficult to understand now just how thoroughly the first World War was seared into the mass consciousness of the early 20th Century, and how traumatized Americans and Europeans were by the unprecedented horrors and loss of life the war delivered in such a short time. This trauma explains the great reluctance many people felt about getting involved in the conflict brewing across Europe in the mid to late 1930s, and covers lilke this, in which Superman seems angry at war as a concept rather than at war with any specific people, were common in the pre-Pearl Harbor days. Only the third Superman cover ever published, it was a far cry from the beefy, smiling patriot soon to grace post-Pearl DC covers, and still startles with its raw emotion and crude power. Also of interest is the way this cover quietly resembles the pre-Superman pulpish covers seen on the covers of New Adventure and More Fun, as though DC was still uncertain about this new caped creation and whether he would hold readers' interest longterm. Another extremely rare early Superman that commands top dollar on the Golden Age market.

This expertly restored copy is in terrific condition and is an extremely scarce issue.
