DESCRIPTION
11.5" x 17.5" Historic cover penciled by John Buscema and finished in ink by Frank Giacoia
In this classic issue The Avengers travel back in time and experience the actual death of Bucky. May very well be the first comic in the Marvel universe to have the Silver Age super-heroes travel back to the Golden Age.
Arguably, the most celebrated run of The Avengers is that spearheaded by writer Roy Thomas and legendary artist John Buscema. And the character best associated with the series is the First Avenger, Captain America. In this classic issue, the iconic team travels back in time and experiences the actual death of Bucky, Captain America's Golden Age sidekick. It may very well be the first comic in the Marvel Universe to have the Silver Age superheroes confront the Golden Age.

Amazingly, this piece of Buscema art--beautifully inked by the great Frank Giacoia--has not been on the market for almost forty-five years. In 1969, a young teenager brought his entire comic book collection, consisting of more than 2,000 low--and mid-grade 1960's comics, such as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Action Comics, Batman and The Fantastic Four, to his local comic store in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He traded the entire lot for this original cover artwork. Years later the teen discovered that the shop owners believed they had gotten the better deal. We disagree.

With the announced second Captain America movie based around Bucky's "resurrection" as the Winter Soldier, interest will only increase in Cap and Bucky artwork, and even more so for pieces featuring them both!

Artwork measures 11.5" x 17.5" and is in excellent condition.
