Dark Beast 1st app, Age of ApocalypseIn 1995, the X-Men family of titles was suspended for four months, and readers were introduced to an alternate timeline where: Xavier had been killed, Magneto had formed the X-Men in his place, while Apocalypse had conquered most of the Earth. A spiritual successor to the Days of Future Past, the original Age of Apocalypse story was one of the best-received arcs in modern-age X-Men lore. This splash precedes all work published only in the books, as it was used as a promotional poster to hype the series prior to its release. This is the first published image of Dark Beast, the evil Beast from the alternate AoA world. Dark Beast is one of only four characters to have leapt from the AoA into the traditional 616 Marvel Universe - and he remains a major part of the X-Men mythos nearly two decades later, and was recently seen as a key player in the lauded Dark Angel Saga. This splash, originally planned for use as a cover, was published within X-Men Chronicles (the AoA version of X-Men Unlimited) and we believe it may also have been printed as a Wizard magazine fold-out poster.
