The deathly countenance of the Latverian ruler has roots in the Golden Age, of course. Jack Kirby's design (and Stan Lee's complex characterization) still made Victor Von Doom one of the most influential pop-culture figures of the past 60 years.
That includes Doom's role as a clear inspiration in the creation of Darth Vader. The upcoming Marvel Studios revival of the big-screen Fantastic Four is one of the most hotly anticipated projects in the history of superhero films, with fans eager to see Von Doom's return to the official Marvel Movie family.
Another of the notorious grey-background Silver Age Marvel covers that appear washed out and drab in lower-graded copies, this amazing 9.4 beauty is explosively colorful, just the way it appeared on newsstands on day one. Just as Batman has his Joker and Superman his Luthor, the FF has their arch-nemesis Doom, appearing so soon in this series that he was practically born alongside the hero team itself. This origin issue is a lasting favorite with Silver Age collectors, and is very tough to find in such nice shape. Thrill at the rich color and strong inks of this immaculate copy. The blinding-reds of the Torch's feeble attempts to fight back, and the velvety greens of Doom's imposing costume, both are among the richest we've seen on any copy we've offered.

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
Joe Sinnott is an American comic book artist. Working primarily as an inker, Sinnott is best known for his long stint on Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, from 1965 to 1981, initially over the pencils of Jack Kirby. During his 60 years as a Marvel freelancer and then salaried artist working from home, Sinnott inked virtually every major title, with notable runs on The Avengers, The Defenders and Thor.
