Moondog's Dr. Fate Collection
This is the book that launched the Silver Age of Comics and the Marvel Age of storytelling, courtesy of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's extraordinary vision. This classic collectible also has the thrilling origin story providing the first appearances of Mister Fantastic, the Thing, Human Torch, and Invisible Girl--along with the debut of the tragically evil Mole Man. The pop-culture passion for Fantastic Four is now set to get even more heated, with excitement building over Marvel Studios finally recovering the film rights to the company's first super team!

One of the pleasures of browsing through the Moondog/Dr. Fate collection is getting the chance to see so many popular Silver Age keys in unusually splendid condition -- many of these books are sparkling, stunning. simply glorious examples of the art form, including this blinding-white gem. As with most Silver Age Marvel keys, condition is king, not only for value, but for aesthetics -- the cheap, rushed production process and reliance on white or grey backgrounds for covers means that most surviving copies can appear drab or plain. When seeing beautifully preserved copies such as this, one begins to understand the seismic impact that these dramatic comics had on young readers weaned on other publishers' more conservative offerings. The green beastie at center is especially well-presented in this stunning 8.5 copy, Marvel fanatics will practically pummel one another for the chance to put this glorious comic in their collections. Expect this to be among the hottest books in this jam-packed auction.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
