A former cabbie caught up in classic pulp-era Yellow Peril danger became among the first of the super-speedsters of the Golden Age of comics, eventually becoming a firm cult favorite thanks to the inventive Jack "Plastic Man" Cole, whose animated style and boundless imagination gave the hero's adventures a bounce and energy that helped it stand out from a crowded pack. A staunch patriot and enemy to Axis forces, he spent the WWII era delighting readers with his explosive exploits, making the rare remaining copies of his series a real magnet for nostalgic collectors. This issue, featuring the first Cole-designed costume, which became his most memorable, is among the most desired and admired among aficianados of cult Golden Age heroes.
This absolutely stunning copy is from the Church/Mile High pedigree, and attests to the level of quality that John Wise demanded in his collection. A Golden Age book simply shouldn't look like this, sharp, bright, freshly minted -- and yet, here it is, one of the truly beautiful Golden Age comics left in existence, a book in such incredible condition that we've seen very, very few over the years that can rival it. Scans cannot do it justice. If you demand the very best and rarest, you must consider this breathtaking copy of an incredibly rare issue.
