Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 was an overnight sensation, leading to a hurriedly prepared solo title from co-creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. (Marvel still brought in the top-selling Fantastic Four on the cover as insurance.) The book remains one of the cornerstones of comic collecting--featuring the first appearance of J. Jonah Jameson as one of the most iconic supporting characters in the history of comics. The book is also notable for including The Chameleon as Spidey’s first supervillain. The shape-shifting spy has been one of the major missing figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is finally set to make his big-screen debut in this year’s Kraven the Hunter film.

Where previous heroes origin stories were based in spectacular events, dramatic twists, and high tragedy, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko firmly planted their flagship character's feet in the hard ground of daily life in the big city. Shy, insecure, lower-class teen, Peter Parker, transforms into a freakish, wise-cracking daredevil, tortured by guilt over the loss of his father figure, all while scrambling to make a quick buck from his sudden brush with semi-greatness. Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy 15 was like nothing anyone had seen before and was an instant success, leading to a hurriedly prepared solo debut issue. One of the most important comics of the era, and the book that proved the Marvel Age of comics was no fluke.

There's only so much you can say about this comic's impact, story, history, etc & until a copy like this pops up and turns all expectations and ideas about this landmark comic on their head. It's simply gorgeous. No matter how many printings you've seen of this world-famous key, it never fails to take the breath away to lay eyes on a copy so close to perfection, so uncannily preserved from the day it hit the newsstands. It's a time machine, a revelation, a nearly perfect slice of pop culture history. Certainly one of the most important comics ever published, and one of the most famous and beloved, there's no way that any serious collector can resist taking a shot at adding this issue into their world-class collection. Silver Age Marvel keys simply don't survive like this one did, not usually. A gem, a milestone, and easily one of the most stunning copies we've ever seen. Expect this extraordinary artifact to inspire fierce competition and furious bidding. Expect history to be made.
