RARE! first app. The Claw by Jack Cole
It's interesting to note that the first issue of Silver Streak Comics does not feature an appearance by the titular hero, who would not make his entrance until #3 when the series was taken over by Lev Gleason. The initial inspiration for the Silver Streak title was a car owned by Arthur Bernhardt, of Rhoda Publications. Rhoda published this premier issue, a comic that hews closely to the anthology format of the Golden Age, by employing the "kitchen sink" approach of stuffing the book with a variety of potboilers, magical adventures, and even some western flavor to spice up the storylines. The Claw is featured on the cover, which is curious, as he is a villain, and villains were not often the star attraction in GA comics, as they usually appeared on covers only to be assaulted by a muscle-bound hero. Mister Midnite, Spirit Man, and Captain Fearless are on hand to round out the comic in true GA anthology style.
