ow/white pgs From the Collection of Sol Davidson
Shuster, Sullivan, Moldoff art (his first); 1937 DC Annual (the second); Comic Book Impact rating of 8 (CBI)Having seen some success with the previous year's Big Book of Fun, DC hurriedly prepared a doorstop followup, the New Book of Comics, a massive 100-page monster of a comic that featured many of the talents that were soon to shake up the industry in the oncoming superhero craze. The bright, colorful pastiche cover did its job nicely, and the book sold in healthy numbers, though surprisingly few survive to this day, making this certainly one of the five rarest DC comics ever published. The squarebound cover makes finding decent copies of this book, already extremely rare, a real chore. This copy, the third-highest graded on the census, is thus doubly scarce, being an unusually handsome copy of an unusually scarce collector's item.
Overstreet Guide 2014 VF- (7.5) value = $10,388.
