Amazing Fantasy #15 remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and an important investment for collectors. The introduction of Spider-Man notoriously shook up the comics industry with the premise of a neurotic Everyman gifted with extraordinary powers. There was also a different kind of tragic backstory fueled by Peter Parker’s guilt over the death of Uncle Ben. Jack Kirby caught the eyes of kids with one of the best covers in comics history; Steve Ditko took over the interior art while working with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut. All that innovation made for this timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics.

There's a saying that one can be in any part of the world, throw a rock, and hit someone who is a fan of Spider-Man. Peter Parker, the timid teenager, is front and center in the final issue of the Amazing Fantasy run. Changed from Amazing Adult Fantasy for this last issue, it is apparent that Lee and Kirby were trying to incorporate the wild success of titles the like Fantastic Four to appeal to a wider, younger audience. Little did they know they would spawn one of the most popular superheroes ever created! Contained inside its pages is one of the most memorable phrases ever uttered in all of comics, "With great power, comes great responsibility." Perhaps a note to Stan Lee himself, who changed the landscape of the superhero world forever.

Note the beautiful, rich colors this copy has to offer: The reds on Spidey's uniform, the mesmerizing yellows in the title graphic, and the subtle background grays that allow Spider-Man to seemingly swing right off the cover and into your living room. This book's upward momentum shows no signs of stopping and the savvy investor would be wise to grab it while they still can.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
