Creig Flessel cvr/art; rare in any grade (5/37)On the heels of the popularity of the pulps, crime and drama-themed comics were a mainstay of the early market. Before superheroes dominated the four-color scene, classic covers such as this Creig Flessel prison break illustration exhilarated readers of the era. The anthology titles of the early days of comics covered a wide spectrum of genres. Within readers would thrill to action, mystery, crime, espionage, westerns, science fiction, you name it. In this issue alone, stories starring Speed Saunders, Hope Hazard, G-Woman, Cosmo, the Phantom of Disguise, Bruce Nelson, Bart Regan, Buck Marshall, and Slam Bradley were pored over, re-read and swapped with friends. Typical of the pre-superhero comic, editors threw in the kitchen sink to try and appeal to the largest audience possible.
