origin & 1st app of Spider-Man (Peter Parker), 1st Uncle Ben & Aunt May (8/62) Comic Book Impact rating of 10 (CBI)

This iconic comic remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and a great investment for collectors. Jack Kirby ushered in the historic first appearance of Spider-Man on the classic cover; Steve Ditko took over the interior art as he worked with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut. The story also set up the radical new concept of a neurotic Everyman behind the hero's mask All of this made for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and his very human alter-ego) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics.

If you don't have an AF15 in your Marvel keys collection, it's just not complete. Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but there it is. Luckily, buying lower-grade copies is not the risk it once was, as even super-low-grade copies of AF15 are now ballooning in price and demand, making them surefire investments no matter what the grade. The good news is that this is an unusually nice 4.0, with commanding reds and a nice, clean central image, raising it head-and-shoulders above the pack of mediocre reader-grade copies often available. Bid with confidence!

Overstreet Guide 2014 VG (4.0) value = $8,000.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
