This is the great "hidden" success story of Marvel keys -- at nearly every convention we've attended in the past ten years, this book has sold quickly, it ends up on pretty much every want list we get. Even before Marvel's recent reinvention of the character, this was the secret key, rarer than most, and seemingly in huge if subtle demand. Not anymore -- this book has now exploded in desirability and value, thanks both to its scarcity and the sudden resurgence of interest in Ant-Man. The cover of this classic book hearkens back to the sci-fi monster mashes of the 1950s that were popping up like weeds all over the TV dial at the time of this issue's publication. It's likely that Lee and Kirby were trying to cash in on the popularity of giant-bug movies among their adolescent readership, but also retain the flexibility to sneak the anthology title slowly into the superhero realm that would prove to be Marvel's bread and butter before too long.
Lauded as the first appearance of Ant-Man, the burgeoning Henry Pym we are introduced to, in this issue, has yet to design his iconic costume and this first appearance is a highly sought-after prize for any collector. The issue is rare, especially in high grades, and will likely continue to increase in value, especially after the film s release. This copy is in excellent condition with vibrant colors and an innovative Silver-Age Kirby cover, emblematic of the Science-Fiction genre a welcomed addition to any collection.

Overstreet Guide 2014 VF- (7.5) value = $6,612.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
