DESCRIPTION
Pg. 6, Jack Kirby Pencils, Dick Ayers Inks; early Ant-Man and Wasp appearance

Jack "The King" Kirby skillfully pencils this early Fantastic Four page with an outstanding inking assist by Dick Ayers. The first panel gives us a glimpse of early Kirby machinery. The 2nd panel has a group shot featuring the entire FF, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Torch and The Thing. The last panel may very well be the most important. FF 16, published in July of 1963, this could very well be the 2nd appearance of the Wasp in a comic. She appeared the month before for the very first time in Tales to Astonish 44. If you look at the caption on the bottom of the page it even tells readers to "meet the Wasp & starting with issue 44 of Tales to Astonish". The introduction of the Wasp in the Ant-Man Movie, along with plans to feature her in Avengers 3, means the popularity of this heroine is on the rise.

Art is in excellent condition.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
