This iconic comic remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and a great investment for collectors. Jack Kirby ushered in the historic first appearance of Spider-Man on the classic cover; Steve Ditko took over the interior art as he worked with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut. The story also set up the radical new concept of a neurotic Everyman behind the mask All of that made for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and his very human alter-ego) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic characters in comics.
Not very colorful when first pressed, the cover still retains strong browns and reds along with nice Off White/White pages. It shows light, moderate wear with only a few color breaks at the spine and just a little rounding of the corners. Mid-grade copies like this one are becoming increasingly more difficult to acquire as they continually go up in value every year. Don't miss out on this very attractive copy.
Overstreet Guide 2015 VG+ (4.5) value = $11,600.

LEARN MORE Artist InformationJack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
