SUPER RARE Ashcan with Green Lantern cover and Flash interiorThough they were the comic book industry leader, DC was playing catch up in 1941 when it came to patriotic titles and characters. MLJ introduced The Shield in Pep Comics in early 1940, and Timely introduced Captain America a year later.
Not to be outdone though DC created their own patriotic titles - Star Spangled Comics, Old Glory and Red, White & Blue Comics. Though Star Spangled ultimately was published in October 1941 they did create ashcans of Old Glory and Red, White & Blue.
Saved from destruction by Sol Harrison, former president of DC Comics, these are the only surviving copies of these historically important titles. DC does not have copies in their vault.
