Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kept their Marvel Age hot streak running with the big and brutal Hulk, with Incredible Hulk #1 becoming another vital Silver Age key that's remained a top collectible. In addition to introducing readers to Dr. Bruce Banner and his brutal alter-ego, This timeless classic also marks the first appearances of Betty Ross, Rick Jones, and General "Thunderbolt" Ross (the latter set to remain a major part of the Disney+ Marvel Universe). The iconic cover image continues to resonate with fans to this day.

Stan Lee demanded a change after the botched coloring process for this book. The second issue would change the Hulk from a blotchy gray to his green-skinned glory. Hulk would then survive his own title’s quick cancellation to keep thrilling comics fans, eventually coming back with a top-selling book and a hit '70s television show. From there, the Hulk’s return to the big-screen Avengers reignited the public’s passion for both the troubled hero and his alter-ego of Dr. Bruce Banner.

We have all battled that monster within, the collecting monster that calls to us when we see a comic book we've longed for and desired. They're like pulpy sirens of historical, pop-cultural significance and this absolutely stunning example calls to the collector and investor in us all.

This copy of the Incredible Hulk's debut is immaculate. New life has been expertly breathed into this masterpiece of restoration. Generations to come will cherish this snapshot from 1962, possibly even more perfect than the day it was printed. It has the most supple, white pages, with bright, vibrant inks, and sharp crisp corners. The cover is a purely smooth, flat surface. Presentation this nice beckons to all who seek perfection. Indulge your collecting-monster and bid aggressively for this key. This is another must-see-to-be-believed comic book.

Overstreet Guide 2015 NM- (9.2) value = $150,000.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
