Johnny Craig bondage, torture cvr; 1st issue (formerly War Against Crime)
After WWII ended, comic books started their slow turn away from superheroes and towards genre titles, the fine folks over at EC were in tune with changing times, and, after working some horror-themed stories into their War Against Crime anthology title, they decided to switch the mag over to Vault of Horror, hence the #12 (#1) designation on this case. The success the publisher enjoyed with their new content is the stuff of legend, which we will leave for another day, suffice to say Vault of Horror was the baby of Johnny Craig, workhorse illustrator for EC, who was responsible for many of the inflammatory covers released by the imprint, Craig drafted all of the covers in this series’ run, and contributed every lead story save two.
