In many ways the father of comic-book fandom, Jerry Bails, was among the first collectors to treat comics as an American art form, rather than disposable trifles. If not for his tireless efforts, the comic market might not exist. Among his very first attempts to preserve the American comic tradition was this remarkable artifact, a set of bound volumes of most of the early All Star Comics, along with some rare Comic Cavalcade issues, direct from the files of DC legend Gardner Fox. These were Fox's personal bound volumes, which Bails bought from him in 1959, which have been in the Bails archives until now. Many of these issues are extremely rare in any condition, and their provenance and history, in terms of both comics and fandom, are unparalleled. We are deeply honored to present these volumes to the collecting community, along with the original check bearing Fox's endorsement. A truly classic run of Golden Age comics, including the first appearance of Wonder Woman (All Star 8), direct from the creator of some of the Golden Age's finest moments, and preserved by the first major figure of comic book fandom.
