DESCRIPTION
Pg. 8-12, pencils by Dave Wenzel inks by Duffy Vohland; 11" x 17"; BritishThis full page splash from 1977 required a bit of research. It now represents an interesting story. The front of the board identifies the book as issue 222 and also indicates Invaders #12 p.8-12 British Issue. The page lists the following creators: Roy Thomas - Writer / Editor, Frank Robbins / Frank Springer -- Artists, Joe Rosen Letterer. However the artists for this page were Dave Wenzel and Duffy Vohland.
Dave Wenzel is best known for his visualization of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, illustrated in graphic novel format. Dave confirmed that he worked for Marvel's British department in the 1970 s, which was a coordinated part of their New York offices located on Madison Ave. At that time they would break up American Comics into smaller parts to meet the British desire for weekly comics. So many artists who were just breaking in like Dave Wenzel and John Romita Jr were creating new covers to go on the various UK issues.
This comic itself was worked on by all the artists that are listed. Duffy Vohland and Dave did the new cover and this splash page. Duffy Vohland worked for Marvel during the early 1970s on such titles as Savage Sword of Conan and Super-Villain Team-Up. He first worked for Charlton Comics but later became one of the members of the "Marvel Bullpen". He is credited for bringing John Byrne into the Marvel fold. Vohland passed away in 1982.
