Pacific Coast Copy
Steve Ditko continually rose to the challenge of creating memorable Spider-Man villains alongside Stan Lee, and the classic cover of Amazing Spider-Man #28 is one of the book's greatest early achievements. The cover is certainly worthy of Marvel's brief period of proclaiming their books to be "Pop Art Productions,." Ditko's innovative use of darkness to illustrate the menace of the Molten Man has also made it very difficult to find this gorgeous cover in a high grade. Fortunately, the interior art is just as gripping, with the creative team also capturing the awkward rituals of adolescence as Peter Parker graduates from high school.
Many folks in the comic book industry know that covers with black backgrounds typically do not age well, as they are constantly revealing even the most minor of dings, scratches, creases or even fingerprints. Well, this beautiful, pristine copy, hailing from the Pacific Coast pedigree, is simply one of the finest examples of this comic that we have ever laid eyes upon. There, Spider-Man, shrouded in black, predicts the Symbiote costume by several decades, and the graphic design conceived by Steve Ditko is one of his finest creations. This comic is definitely a classic of the Silver Age, and one which should pique the interest of discerning Spider-Man fans everywhere.
