Jon Berk CollectionEarly issues of Detective Comics showcased the early influence of the pulp market on the comics industry. The popular title thrived by incorporating pulp motifs and designs to sell illustrated adventure stories. The covers in this selection of classic early Detective books are as hard-boiled as they come, with a swagger that would soon be translated into the superhero covers of the wartime era.
These books are well known as very shrewd investments with plenty of upside potential. This classic issue opens with the tale of a mad scientist who places a human brain in a gorilla's head for no particular reason, the ensuing rampage is doubtless the inspiration for the moody Creig Flessel cover art on this classic. The anthology insanity continues through out the book, stuffed to the brim with the pre-Batman tales that defined the fledgling series. Speed Saunders, Larry Steele, Cosmo, the Phantom of Disguise, Bruce Nelson and Slam Bradley all make appearances, just to name a few.
