Flessel Sandman cover
Creig Flessel’s excellent cover for Adventure Comics #51 shows Sandman firing his gas gun at a group of what appear to be corrupt politicians, who are obviously up to no good. It was pulpy scenarios like this one that drew readers to newsstands to plunk down a shiny dime and find out what else this seductive issue had in store. The enchanting power of Golden Age comics still holds sway over collectors of today who can’t resist the bright four-color action presented in these captivating tomes of yesteryear. This issue also features a classic Hour-Man story along with the requisite anthology potboilers that made the era so much fun.
