This dramatic five-panel page by Tony Moore is a superb piece that dares you to look away. It's a quintessential example of Moore's genius for illustrating wrenching personal conflict by means of gruesome violence. The page depicts the lopsided confrontation between Rick and his former partner, Shane, during the final moments of his existence. Shane has lost all self-respect and stands at the brink of murder. The grotesque humor of Shane's expression as a bullet passes through his thick neck is classic as he is shot by Rick's young son Carl, who has figured out that Shane was not to be trusted and followed the two men in secret. Despite his age, still waiting for a front tooth to grow in, Carl's tear-stained face shows that he is fully aware of the tragedy of which he has become a part. He understands the difference between killing a human being and killing a walker, but squeezes the trigger in order to save his father.
