Superman's 1st use of Super-Hearing... What?By the mid-60s, it seemed like Superman had super-everything: Super-Vision, Super-Breath, Super-Fast-Typing, Super-Disguise-Power, you name it. Purists would balk that this was the result of overeager editors and writers trying to soup up the character for the Atomic age, but you can kinda blame Siegel and Shuster directly for this, since here's an appearance from the first year of Super-exploits, in which the Man From Krypton uses his, er, well, Super-Hearing. For something. Or some such. Okay, it's silly to think about now, but in those heady, pulp-friendly days deep in the depression and with a new war looming, readers were ready and willing to suspend disbelief as long as the stories were fun, well-crafted, and larger than life, and this early appearance is crackling with virbancy and style. This extremeley rare issue is capped off with a classic Guardineer cover in the classic pre-hero tradition.
