April/May 1954

3-D movies were a pop-culture sensation that swept through movie theaters in the 1950s as audiences of the era were thrilled when images popped right off the screen thanks to a simple visual trick involving spectacles with colored lenses. It would have been an easy leap for comic writers to imagine the results of these images coming to life once they appeared on screen, and the storyline of this engaging sci-fi/horror story takes that concept to the limit. Illustrated by the journeyman Ken Landau, who worked for B-level publishers in the Gold and Silver Ages between animation gigs, this tale is truly a wild ride. Complete stories from this period are hard to come by, as pages have been sold piecemeal, or have survived in individual lots, but here is an intact, and highly entertaining, seven-page shocker that is sure to draw the attention of horror fans young and old.

Artist Information

Kenneth Landau got his artistic education at the Art Students League and at the Pratt Institute. He worked as a comic book artist in the 1950s. He drew for 'Adventures into the Unknown' for ACG and illustrated stories with 'Tom & Jerry' for Dell Publications. Landau did pen and ink on 'Rocky X of the Rocketeers' for Lev Gleason, as well as horror stories for Harwell and Marvel/Atlas. He has worked as an animator for Hanna-Barbera and Cambria.
