Frank Frazetta art; preliminary study; c. 1973; image size 3.5" x 5"Beautiful preliminary study by Frazetta for his painting for the cover to the 1973 Ace edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Land of the Hidden Men, a Tarzan-esque jungle adventure story. Frazetta's ability to create simple drawings that effectively convey their intent is one of his greatest strengths, all of the intensity of the finished painting are present in this study. A wonderful piece by one of the most important illustrators of the 20th century. Mixed media. Art is in very good condition, the paper has torn edges and minor overall wear. Initialed by Frazetta.

Frank Frazetta was an American fantasy and science fiction artist, noted for comic books, paperback book covers, paintings, posters, LP record album covers and other media. He is often referred to as the "Godfather" of Fantasy Art, and one of the most renowned illustrators of the 20th century. He was also the subject of a 2003 documentary "Painting with Fire".
