Event Auction #50 Highlight: Video Tapes

The Force is strong with VHS tapes at ComicConnect! Sealed, high-grade tapes have become one of the most exciting new collectibles markets. Earlier this year, we sold a high-grade Terminator VHS for $32,500, and now collectors and investors alike are eagerly awaiting the next big hit!

Our Event Auction is packed with great tapes, including the highest-graded copy of the 1984 Red Label “Star Wars” VHS. The original Star Wars trilogy is known worldwide for changing the landscape of collectibles, and this rare edition of the 1977 smash hit earned a 9 Box grade and a 9.5 Seal grade by IGS and is estimated to be worth over $60,000. Will this be the next record-breaking VHS?

VHS collectors love classic genres, most notably horror movies. We’ve revved up incredible offerings in this key category, including a high-grade early 1984 Betamax copy of the terrifying “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Leatherface isn’t the only horror icon featured, we also have Freddy Krueger in “Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” and Jason Voorhees in “Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood."

This Event Auction also has some great early comic-related videos, including a 1984 Big Box Betamax copy of the first volume of the Transformers cartoon! We also have a First Print copy of the 1990 fan-favorite “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and an Academy Screener copy of 2000’s “X-Men,” the movie that initiated the superhero movie revolution.

Other VHS highlights include screener copies of “Street Fighter” and “Home Alone,” high-grade comedies “Coming to America” and “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” and high-grade rare editions of family films “E.T.” and Disney’s “Cinderella.” Everyone has a favorite movie, and graded VHS tapes provide a great way to honor and display them!
