"Battles Hitler" classic photographic cover
John Wise Collection
One of the truly iconic covers of the Golden Age, and the title on the cover says it all, Daredevil Battles Hitler! The Original Daredevil was created by Jack Binder and many legendary creators worked on the character including Jack Cole, Don Rico, and the great Charles Biro. Dynamic art and spellbinding storytelling make this book a must have for any Golden Age aficionado. Notable not only for its full-frontal propaganda against the Third Reich pre-WWII, but for its Japanese war stories written months before the Pearl Harbor attack! A truly classic book.

During the Golden Age of comics, readers loved seeing heroes to battle against the Axis forces, and nobody represented and embodied pure Axis evil like the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. Captain America famously punched out the leader of the Third Reich in March of 1941, in July of the same year Daredevil took him on, in creepy photographic form. The jarring image on the cover of this key issue remains one of the most iconic covers of the Golden Era and of comic books in general. This book carries historical weight on two levels -- not only among the first Hitler covers in comics, but the first time Daredevil appeared in his own title after battling The Claw in Silver Streak comics a year previous. Containing no less than seven Nazi-bashing tales, this key appeals to both WWII collectors and comics enthusiasts. Often presented in low or mid grade condition, this splendid copy has all the sparkle and color of yesteryear, and is a true gem of this historic auction.

Overstreet Guide 2013 VF (8.0) value = $9,500.
