DESCRIPTION
Marvin Stein pencils and inks; 15" x 20"; gripping 1953 twice-up action/chase cover!

After achieving success by switching Headline Comics over exclusively to a true-crime format, Simon & Kirby launched Justice Traps the Guilty in 1947. The action-packed cover of issue 53 sees Stein amplifying the action through great use of perspective in his rendering of a criminal being chased through a power plant by two policemen. This piece displays a great deal of drama and imbues a sense of potential danger for the police officers and FBI agents involved. These lots offer a great opportunity to enter into the early comic book art market by way of two very rare covers.

Artist Information

Marvin Stein was an American comic book artist who began his career at the Chesler Studio, which supplied comic stories and art to the comic book industry. Stein worked on Captain Valiant for Croyden Publications between 1944 and 1946, and the Funnyman daily and Sunday syndicated strip, and Superboy and Boy Commandos for National Comics/DC. Stein joined the Simon & Kirby Studio and worked on myriad titles — Black Magic, Headline, Justice Traps the Guilty, Young Love, and Young Romance, while freelancing for several other publishers, including Atlas, Feature Comics, Prize Comics, and Ziff-Davis.
