Highest GradedIn the cutthroat world of Golden Age comics, scrappy little publishers were constantly vying to get in on the action, chasing hungrily after the normous readership generated by the big guns of National (later DC), Timely, and Fawcett. Whatever it took to get noticed, these tenacious small fries would do, and the most surefire way of getting attention was to tug aggressively at readers' patriotism, especially in the early, white-hot days of America's entry into the Second World War. This classic example showcases the crude but effective illustrations that the lower-tier publishing houses would mop up, dragooning hungry freelancers, starry-eyed newcomers, and starving art students into churning out marketable material with startling speed. Thanks to low print runs and aggressive wartime paper drives, very few of these forgotten treasures have survived, making war-era rarities like this a real find for WWII cover collectors. Thanks to the legendary Edgar Church, whose meticulously kept collection is still the blue-label pinnacle of comics pedigrees, super-rarities such as this survive to this day -- in fact, this is one of the few known examples of this incredibly obscure little gem, and is in mind-bogglingly perfect shape, with blinding reds and sparkling yellows. The best of the best for hunters of true comics scarcities.
