Jack Kirby cover & art; origin and 1st app X-Men; 1st app Magneto; Comic Book Impact rating of 10 (CBI)The first appearances of the original X-Men—including Professor X, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Marvel Girl, as well as evil mutant Magneto—are all featured in this classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic. A new crew of mutants would revive the title in the ’70s, but this vital debut introduces most of the core characters that would launch the big-screen superhero trend of the 21st century.
In addition to that hit film franchise, these teen outcasts would star in a staggering number of comic spin-offs, plus a variety of live-action TV shows and cartoons. There’s even more interest in the title today as Marvel Studios takes over the beloved characters once owned by Fox, strongly suggesting the investment value of this perpetually hot issue will only continue to grow.
Racial strife dominated the headlines of 1963 America. A savvy storyteller keeps a finger on the pulse of history and Stan Lee was just that. Through the debut of the X-Men, Lee was able to subtly address racism through a team of super-heroes like no other. With strange appearances and unique abilities, normal folks could relate to the mutants as they found themselves in situations that mirrored those of humanity. Stan wanted kids to connect with the characters so they could feel less alone, outcast, or even unattractive, and move a few comic magazines in the meantime. The Uncanny X-Men were ideal for the social upheaval that informed the 60s, and there's no sign of the X-Men's popularity dwindling into the modern day. Don't miss your chance to own a true piece of Marvel history!

Artist Information
Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
