Rick waking upThe third page from the first issue of the blockbuster comic series, illustrated by Tony Moore, shows Sheriff Rick Grimes in his hospital room regaining consciousness from a coma after getting shot in the line of duty. Unpleasant as it may be to stir awake in a hospital, alone and disoriented, he can't begin to imagine the horrific new world he's waking up to. Struggling to regain control of himself, he removes his breathing tube and IV drip and literally falls out of bed before getting his bearings and finding his clothes and badge -- a link to his former life that, unbeknownst to him, has been changed forever by the cataclysmic global infestation by the dead who walk.
