Stunning artwork from the master, Frank Frazetta; Nov 4, 1952 daily; 5" x 17"

Features Johnny and his lovely girlfriend Jean. Amazing brushwork with the use of Zipatone makes this masterpiece really pop. Frazetta signature in 1st panel

Frank Frazetta is known throughout the comic book world as one of the greatest illustrators to ever set pen to paper, and for good reason. His memorable, detailed illustrations and paintings sell for astronomical amounts at auction. Even top tier artists like Frazetta have humble origin stories, working their way up the ranks through commercial art, C-level publishers, and also, the comic strip medium.

This strip from Frazetta's Johnny Comet hails from a time before the artist became a household name (well certain households at least), but also provides a glimpse into his future output that would go on to become legendary. Easily maneuvering between cartoony caricatures, robust heroes, and Good Girl Art, these panels reveal a maestro already in complete control of his medium. Employing a liberal dose of Zip-A-Tone in this strip Frazetta adds a sheen of texture that serves to highlight his elegant brushstrokes and dramatic use of light and dark spaces that would go on to play a defining role in the artist's later work. Almost any pieces featuring the iconic Frazetta signature are magnets for comic art collectors, and owning an illustration by this master is a dream of many. This is a perfect opportunity for determined bidders to take home a classic, early Frazetta piece.
