Catman was publisher Frank Z. Temerson's attempt to cash in on the sudden superhero boom, resulting in a colorful, bright costumed crimefighter whose origin combined elements of Tarzan, Batman, and Captain America in a unique and arresting mix that remains a cult favorite to this day. Possibly the only caped hero of the era paired with a young female sidekick (named Kitten, which, what did you expect), and the only hero team allowed to age somewhat realistically over the years, the team proved rather popular through the war years. The scarcity of the run, due to scattered distribution and WWII paper drives, makes this one of the toughest and most rewarding of hero titles to collect. The colossal Charles M. Quinlan cover shown here, is full of all the excitement and campiness that Golden Age collectors love and hunt for. Witness Catman comically assault his foe with a tornado maneuver reminiscent of the WWE. Meanwhile, Kitten looks up smilingly for Catman's approval as she mans a water-cooled Browning machine gun. That'll do, Kitten, that'll do.
