The first appearances of the original X-Men—including Professor X, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Marvel Girl, as well as evil mutant Magneto—are all featured in this classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic. A new crew of mutants would revive the title in the ’70s, but this vital debut introduces most of the core characters that would launch the big-screen superhero trend of the 21st century.
In addition to that hit film franchise, these teen outcasts would star in a staggering number of comic spin-offs, plus a variety of live-action TV shows and cartoons. There’s even more interest in the title today as Marvel Studios takes over the beloved characters once owned by Fox, strongly suggesting the investment value of this perpetually hot issue will only continue to grow.
Restored keys are currently undergoing a renaissance, once considered anathema to serious collectors, the nature of the comic marketplace today has given these copies a new life. Many collectors are having difficulty acquiring original condition keys, as owners will hold on to their books in expectation of doubling or tripling their investments down the road, leaving a vacuum of available copies open to the public. Restored books are now filling that void, and bidders have warmed up to these options. This copy of X-Men #1 looks amazing, the colors are shiny and the whites are clean, although the edges are trimmed and there is a small amount of color touch, it is still a great example of a classic Silver Age origin issue, which should go for considerably less than the price of an original condition copy.

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
