Win Mortimer cover, Moldoff art; origin and 1st app. of Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz) Comic Book Impact rating of 8 (CBI)
From humble beginnings featured as a backup story in this issue, the Martian Manhunter, would later become the lynchpin of the DC Universe, acting as the central figure in nearly every incarnation of the Justice League, and becoming the symbol of the Silver, Bronze, and Copper Ages. Told with economy, style, and surprising emotion, this historic issue tells the unexpectedly tragic origin of this most dark and compelling of galactic heroes, created by unsung draftsman Joe Certa and freelance sci-fi writer Joseph Samachson. In many ways, the DC Silver Age begins here.

Artists Information

Moldoff is best known for his early work on DC's Hawkman and Hawkgirl, and was one of Bob Kane's primary "ghost artists" on Batman. He co-created the Batman villains Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, the second Clayface, and Bat-Mite, as well as the original heroes Bat-Girl, Batwoman, and Ace the Bat-Hound.

Win Mortimer is a Canadian comic strip/ book artist who worked for the big publishing houses during both the golden and silver age era of comics. Win mostly worked with DC but later freelanced for Marvel comics, where his most notable works include Action comics and Spidey Super Stories.
