Pg. 23 from Kayo Kirby story; Matt Baker/John Forte pencils and inks; image size 12.25" x 18.75"This beautifully rendered page from Fight Comics #54 was drawn by Matt Baker, recognized for his deft, smooth linework and impeccable skill, Baker is also attributed as the first African-American to find success in the comic book industry. The page is from a Kayo Kirby story, Kirby, a boxer and lawyer, was one of the hundreds of Golden Age anthology characters that would eventually give way to the costumed superheroes that ruled the roost throughout the wartime era. Owning a page of Matt Baker art is a dream come true to knowledgable collectors, as Baker was one of the finest purveyors of what has come to be known as Good Girl Art, his groundbreaking work on Phantom Lady is generally accepted as some of the finest GGA work of the Golden Age. His work for the Eisner/Iger studios is renowned throughout the industry to this day, and his tragically short life made his work rare and fervently sought after by savvy art fans.

John Forte was an American comic-book artist, active from the early 1940s on, best known as one of the primary pencilers of DC Comics' early Legion of Super-Heroes stories. Forte additionally drew for Timely Comics and Atlas Comics — the 1940s and 1950s predecessors, respectively, of Marvel Comics — as well as for the American Comics Group. Fiction House, Lev Gleason, and Quality Comics. He worked primarily for DC Comics beginning 1958, penciling Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane stories for the Superman family of titles.
