Pg. 39; Dick Giordano pencils, inks and signed; image size 10.75" x 15.75"

Dick Giordano and Roy Thomas adapted Bram Stoker's Dracula for an intended B&W magazine in the mid-70s which never came to fruition as Marvel stopped publishing many of their large format books around that time. The project was finally completed and published in 2004 in a hardcover volume, and later again a color version was released. This page is from the third "book" of that story, which shows Dracula being interrupted while feeding his blood and subsequently confronted by Van Helsing and crew. One can see Giordano's 70's style meshed with his more mature flourishes on this page, and his use of light and shadow really give the panels a sense of contrast and mood. Many claim that this is the best adaptation of the Dracula legend into comic form, and due to its interesting history, and the involvement of two legends in the industry, we expect there to be some excitement generated around this page by horror comic fans.


Artist Information

Richard "Dick" Giordano was an American comics artist and editor whose long and prosperous career included introducing Charlton Comics' "Action Heroes" stable of superheroes and serving as executive editor of DC Comics. He worked on a wide range of titles over the years, including Batman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, Teen Titans, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Action Comics among countless others. His style was very much in the Neal Adams mold, making him a popular go-to artist in the 70s and 80s.
