Gaines File Copy
Highest GradedThe stalking revenant is a familiar trope on the covers of horror comics from the pre-code era, and this issue of Vault of Horror features one of the best. The zombie zoo design teases a compelling story that makes viewers want to dive into the issue and find out how this horrible event came to pass. Any comic book cover worth its salt should do just this, cause readers to plop down their hard-earned money without even thinking about it. As collectors know, that ten-cent investment is now worth every penny, and then some.
The combination of the typically powerful Johnny Craig cover design, the fact that this is the highest-graded copy on the census, and that this book is a Gaines File Copy means that EC collectors will be willing to throw their competition into an alligator pit to lay their grubby paws on this incredible copy. 9.8 is a rare grade for any comic, but, books from the late Golden Age are nearly impossible to find in anything near this one's condition.
