Tailspin Tommy was the first comic strip to cash in on America's obsession with aviation in the early part of the 20th century, thanks in no small part to the fervor surrounding Charles Lindbergh, many other heroic flyers would follow in the funny pages and comic books but Tailspin Tommy was the first, and many consider the best, of the airborne heroes to make a mark on comic readers.

In this action-packed sequence, Tommy and Skeeter do battle with an enraged polar bear after they made an emergency landing on an ice floe. Hal Forrest was a versatile artist, able to portray hard-boiled action and romantic plots with the same amount of gravitas, and this page is filled to the brim with some serious survival exploits as the two aviators are pitched in a life or death battle with the humongous carnivore. The page is hand painted by an unknown artist and signed by Hal Forrest.
