Bob Montana cover; Irv Novick/Warren King art; Origin of the Web; WWII Bondage cover (8/42)Another rare Zip WWII cover, gracing a very rare key issue boasting the origin of the Web, one of the few MLJ creations to enjoy a reasonable career beyond the Golden Age. The gruesome and aggressive cover imagery was typical of wartime covers from the minor-league publishers -- one can see here why so many collectors drool over these raw and kinetic propaganda covers. Facing off against the big boys like DC, Timely, and Fawcett, the minors simply had to try harder, and their amazing work still excites to this day.

Irv Novick was an artist and inker for DC Comics. During the 1950s and 60s he often collaborated with friend and editor Robert Kanigher on DC's various war-related titles such as G.I. Combat and Our Fighting Forces.
