Highest GradedCreated by Lou Fine and Will Eisner, the Flame was one of the star attractions for Fox Features Syndicate, one of the scrappy publishers that battled for newsstand attention during the heady days of the Golden Age. Gary Preston was rescued by Tibetan lamas who trained him to control fire as his main power. When he achieved adulthood he returned to the USA and assumed the persona of the Flame. First appearing in Wonderworld Comics, the character was soon granted his own title which ran for eight issues before Fox was snuffed out of the comic marketplace.
The beautiful colors and near-mint condition of this GA treasure might lead one to believe that this book hails from the Edgar Church/Mile High pedigree, and they'd be right, once again a stunningly preserved copy of a rare classic comic is available at auction from the king of all pedigrees. The thrilling cover shows the Flame rushing in to confront a crazed villain who is causing mayhem atop a construction site, as innocent bystanders tumble to their doom while attempting to save a woman who is bound to a girder, this is classic Golden Age mayhem at its best.
